Steve Lawson

On May 31, I celebrated my 57th birthday in Houston, Texas, with my daughter, son-in-law, my grandsons, Jaxon and Aiden, and my wife, Karen. God has truly blessed me through my years! Blessed to be raised in a Christian home with loving parents and two wonderful sisters. Blessed to be called into the greatest profession any person could be honored to serve, as a pastor to God's people. Blessed to have a wonderful wife that has been my best friend and partner in ministry for soon to be 37 years (June 16). Blessed to have two children that we love and continue to pray for and seek God blessings in their lives.

As I look back, I am thankful that my God is faithful and true to all of his promises. As I look forward, it is with a confidence that we all rest in the loving care and certainty of God's plan. My prayer is that God will use me for his purposes for all the years I live and that I will glorify him with my best in all I do!

Penny Crusade 2016 - The Love of Christ Compels Us

Crouseville Advent Christian Church (CACC) Penny Crusade ends in "a close shave"!

CACC recently held a revival of Penny Crusade. The church was divided into teams led by Youth Pastor Jamie McClay and Deacon Paul Dumont. Both of these men have a full mustache and beard. Pastor Jamie had not shaved his beard for 22 plus years. So, you guessed it, the "loser" was going to have to shave. Pastor Jamie led after week one, and then Deacon Paul's team rallied and went ahead after week two. Week three was to be the "big reveal."The tally was team Jamie - $679.52 and team Paul - $433.19 for a total of $1,112.71. Some more change came in and the grand total was $1,125!

While we were having church, the men went downstairs and Lisa McClay not only shaved Paul's face, but "good sport" Pastor Jamie shaved his, too! We did not know this was going on, and then they appeared in the sanctuary the congregation gave them a rousing applause. What a transformation as you can see in the pictures. The bottom line is - God gets the glory! And we had so much fun, too.

Pastor Leon praying for the children and templo Sinaloa

MEXICO

A couple of months back, we wrote about a new mission plant in the Mexican state of Sinaloa. On a recent trip to the mission site, Pastor Leon and his wife, Neomi, were able to send some photos of the church called "Monte de los Olivos" (Mount Olives). The mission is located in the town of Bachoco. It is a small rural setting that is without other churches. One of Pastor Leon's former youth in Tijuana is living in the community and asked if the pastor would come and minister to them. Although, it is not possible for Pastor Leon to be there and at his church in Tijuana full time, he and his wife return to Bachoco several times a year to encourage the 20 plus adults and their children who are attending from the community. As if God is already ahead of us in the plan, Pastor Miguel from Tecate has recently been in contact with a former student who has been freed from family responsibilities and is looking for a church to pastor. He is from the region originally and would like to return to the area. It is too early to know if this is the Lord's will; however, I am always amazed "when things come together" from the "unrelated" resources of our God.

Ordination service for Rev. Randy Henderson at Ephesus ACC in Branford, Fla.

Every once in awhile I get the opportunity to be part of something very special, and this past Sunday I was asked to represent ACGC at the ordination service of one of our pastors. No, I was not a participant at the event, simply one of the folks privileged to observe this special event.

Sitting in the audience, my mind went back to my ordination some 37 years ago. In fact, the chairman of the ordination committee for this event was the chairman for my ordination.

I am thankful for Rev. Randy Henderson, the candidate. It was evident that his church, Ephesus AC Church in Branford, Florida, loves him and respects him as their pastor. I am confident that he will seek to be the best pastor he can be, and that they will support his ministry.

In the past week, I have celebrated a birthday and an anniversary. I am thankful for life and the opportunity to share it with my wife of 41 years.

On Monday, we celebrated those who make it possible for all of us to live in a free country. The more I hear about the troubles around the world, the more thankful I am for where we live and the freedom we enjoy. Today, I want to be sure to say thank you to all who have served in the armed forces for our country. I am quite sure that you don't hear it enough, but please know how thankful we are for your gift to us.

For the years that my oldest son lived in New York City while attending NYU, I would often take the subway into Manhattan, and at one particular point on the trip we would come up above the ground and be able to see the Statue of Liberty. Just seeing it made me feel blessed.

L-R: Atlas C.K. Rankin, Lee Welkley, Steve Lawson

Jeff Walsh and I were at the Florida Conference this past weekend and enjoyed seeing the new facilities at the Advent Christian Village. It was also great to see a lot of old friends, former pastors, missionaries and leaders. The conference went great, and we had the opportunity to hear about ministries all over Florida.

On Sunday we went to New Life Community Church in Jacksonville, Florida, to participate in morning worship. At the conference, we had the opportunity to meet and hear about Rev. Atlas C.K. Rankin. He and many of his congregation have united with the church, and others are attending. He met with the Ministerial Committee and was accepted into the Florida Conference as an Ordained Minister. There will be a service at the church in the near future to recognize this.

CHRISTIANITY THROUGH THE AGES
(a course offered through eBerkshire)

Christianity-Through-the-AgesUnderstanding the historical foundations of the Christian Church helps us understand challenges that face us today. This course examines the history of the Christian Church from the Ascension to modern Fundamentalism, ecumenism and Pentecostalism. Particular attention is given to the development of doctrine and to the growth of the Church, including the Advent Christian denomination. By reading both recent material and first-hand documents, students are encouraged to consider how this information relates to ministry.

You can take the course from the comfort of your home, library or church. Yet, since the course is online, you will be able to easily work this into any busy schedule. Interaction with fellow classmates and with your instructor will enrich your understanding of how God has used his people, for his glory, throughout the ages.

An offering of this course through eBerkshire is scheduled to begin March 7, 2016 (with a course end date of June 24, 2016). Contact Debra Welkley, Distance Education & Learning Manager, eberkshire@berkshire.edu for more information and a Course Registration Form today. (Scholarships are available.)

News from our Asia/Pacific Area Directors Jeff and Penny Vann

Jeff and Penny Vann

When former short-term missionary Dr. Kimon Nicolaides retired from the U.S. military, he and his wife, Chin Lee, decided to stay where they were stationed last - in Hawaii. They felt the call from the Lord to plant a new Advent Christian church there.

Rev. Efren Miranda, who presides over our Advent Christian Conference in the Philippines, is excited about this new ministry. Efren has learned about a good number of Filipinos out in that area, and has begun coordinating with the pastors of those people. He wants to make sure that Filipinos who hire on as overseas contract workers in Hawaii know about this new opportunity to connect with other Advent Christians there.

Western Regional Superintendent Jim Crouse has also been keeping up with the progress of this new Advent Christian church plant. After a recent phone call with Kimon, Jim says that the couple is in the process of planning a special Easter outreach event, and plan to distribute 10,000 flyers to advertise and promote it. They are also in need of a suitable location for the event.

Emerging Leaders

Heather Graff Installation Service (Matt Larkin, Heather Graff)

One of the more significant tasks the Department of Student & Family Ministries is responsible for is identifying, tracking with, and helping to develop emerging leaders. This is a task in which we work closely with the Department of Nurture, our regional superintendents, conference leaders, pastors and local churches. There are a number of students, currently, who are actively training to serve God in various areas of local church ministry. The development of these leaders is an important task that belongs to us all.

This past Sunday, I had the opportunity to take part in an installation service for Heather Graff. Heather is the new youth pastor at Grace Advent Christian Church in Walterboro, South Carolina. There, she'll be serving with Rev. Wayne Lucas and Rev. Nelson Howe, who have both served that church faithfully for a number of years. Heather's connection to the Advent Christian network came through the Aurora Advent Christian Church, but through programs like our Summer Ministries Exchange, Heather has had the opportunity to connect with pastors and leaders throughout the Midwest, New England and the Southeast.

Have you ever been in need? Silly question, right? I notice this a lot when I read a prayer request. People are reaching out to friends, other believers and more to get help with a particular need in their lives. If nothing more, it's comforting to know that someone beside yourself is praying for your need.

In reading the words of David, the King, this morning, I was struck by the fact that he often reached out to God for the meeting of his needs, which were many. He was so thankful that God did not turn a deaf ear to him. Instead, God was faithful to listen and respond to his need. David writes these words in Psalm 116:1-2, "I love the Lord, because he has heard my voice and my pleas for mercy. Because he inclined his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live." We should, like David, all be thankful for the fact that we can give our needs to God, but more importantly that God listens and responds appropriately to our needs. I may not be able to share my need with everyone, but I can certainly give them to the Lord and know that he will help.

Today, Wednesday January 20 in Naperville, Ill., at Community Christian Church, there will be a gathering of pastors and ministry leaders to follow up on a meeting Jeff Walsh and I attended in December 2015. As I shared last week, you may participate through a "Live Stream" in the afternoon from 1 - 5 p.m. Central Time. If you go to  GC2summit.com and click on the "Live Stream" link you can sign up to have access. We will be following this at ACGC, and any local pastors are welcome to join and follow along with us. This event has been relocated a number of times because of the number of registrations, so I am sure it will be a great time of discussion and information. Our Director of Communication, Justin Nash, will be participating along with other Advent Christian pastors and leaders.

LEADERS CONFERENCE 2016
THEME: "TOGETHER: The Impact of Being WITH Jesus!" (Mark 3:14)

Jeff Bogue

Early Bird deadline coming soon!!!

It seems crazy to think that it has been almost three years since ACGC held its last Leaders Conference, but it's true. Those who attended the conference still talk about what a great time was had by all. The setting (The Cove, Asheville, N.C.) was absolutely beautiful and a perfect place for such a gathering. The program was uplifting and challenging. On top of all this, the fellowship shared by those who attended continues to be a highlight.

The good news is that we are going back to The Cove, Tuesday through Thursday, April 5 - 7, 2016, and plans are being made for another great experience. Next year's theme is one that should be enticing to everyone. We are going to focus on what should happen when we spend time with Jesus whether it be in a discipleship relationship, prayer or any other type of life experience or ministry. Our first keynote speaker, Dr. Jeff Bogue, is booked and the rest of the program is being put together. More details will be coming in the near future as well as complete instructions on registering for the event.

One of the crucial and delightful responsibilities of being an area director for Advent Christian World Outreach Office is taking trips to visit our mission fields and our partnering ministries. These trips are crucial, because the workers often serve the Lord under difficult and demanding circumstances, with little or no support from others. We seek to encourage them in their work, and remind them that we are praying for them. The trips can also be delightful, because we ourselves are often encouraged by the wonderful people who are doing ministry as ACGC partners.

REMINDER: Power of Camp Sunday is Coming
Matt Larkin

A few months ago, I introduced you to a new observance we'll be sharing in around our Advent Christian network. So let this week's e-news column serve as a reminder that "Power of Camp Sunday" is coming! On April 10, our first "Power of Camp Sunday" will take place, as Advent Christian churches around the United States will take a moment to celebrate the way God has worked throughout our history in camp ministry, and will look forward to another exciting year of camp ministry impact at their local camps.

In a few weeks, information packets will go out from ACGC to our churches and campgrounds, with information designed to aid in this celebration. The packet will include a letter from me, a suggested bulletin insert, a "Power of Camp" t-shirt order form, and other helpful information.

It may simply be due to the fact that I am getting older, but lately I have noticed that some things bother me more than they use to. One such thing is the apparent loss of what I would call godly virtues. If we stay with the traditional and basic definition of the word virtue, we are talking about "the quality of doing what is right and avoiding what is wrong." I couldn't help but think about this when I spotted the front cover of a magazine featuring Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani. There they were smiling and posing for a picture with the caption, "We're having a girl!" In case you have been under a rock, Blake Shelton and his former wife were recently divorced. Before too long, we were informed that Blake's co-host on the show "The Voice" were dating. Now only a few months later, we find out that they are having a girl. Whoopee!

On Monday and Tuesday, 16 of us have been looking at the Strategic Plan and how it relates to the local ministry in our churches, how ACGC can come alongside in helping cast the vision of loving the lost, strengthening our churches, investing in church planting, and working on developing leaders across the board. It is exciting to hear the stories of our pastors and their ministries, to celebrate with them how God is working.

FLORIDA
O'Brien - The Beachville Advent Christian Church held their annual Christmas Program on Sunday, December 20. The children sang a number of Christmas Carols as part of a play where two tired "shoppers" rested in the "Beachville Country Mall." As the children sang, the message of the true meaning of Christmas came through to the weary shoppers, and they found that Christmas is more than just Santa, presents and shopping. (Santa Claus was at the Mall, and after the program the children and some of the adults had pictures taken with him.)

The evening was concluded as we joined in a candle lighting service "The Colors of Christmas" where different colored candles told the story of the birth of our Savior. In closing, we sang "Silent Night" as each person in the room held a lighted candle.

NEWS FROM OUR AFRICA/EUROPE AREA DIRECTOR BRYCE WHITING

A new well in Mozambique

I love to hear broken English. I am complimented when a brother in Christ with a different mother tongue cares enough about me to speak or write in English. It is not easy to understand, and sometimes the message doesn't come clearly on the first attempt, but if they care enough about me to try to speak, I am determined that I will care enough about them to try to listen. Between the three of us (my brother, God and me) loving understanding will prevail.

I received a letter of thanks recently that gave to me some joyful chuckles. Yes, it was in broken English, but this is not the reason for the laughter. I laughed because the spirit of the letter brought great joy. Permit me to rewrite a few of the thoughts of this letter so you may understand its content.

Introducing the ACGC Resource Center

Matt Larkin

For years, ACGC  has been working to serve the local church through the distribution of Sunday school material and through providing other Christian book resources. Through 2015, this service was provided through Venture Bookstore. However, over the last few months, ACGC has been working on a transition, and in 2016, will now unveil the ACGC Resource Center. While this may seem like a simple downsizing of what we used to do, or a minor custodial change, in making this transition we have put ourselves in a better position to serve you, as leaders in your churches.

We are all human and because of this we are limited in our ability to do certain things. Of course, we don't remember everything, but even in our finite condition, we are quite capable of remembering things that should be forgotten. This is particularly true when it comes to our experience with sin, either sin that has been committed against us or for our own sin. In cases like these, we are quite capable of remembering.

Looking at 2016, anticipating the opportunities that we will have and what we will do with them is a challenge that each individual must face. How we look at our decisions and responsibilities is characterized by our understanding of God's role in our lives and how interested he is in our daily choices. Early in my ministry I encountered a young man who challenged my teaching that God was intimately concerned with our lives on every level. He believed God only noticed the big decisions and that we just handled the day-to-day events without having to consider his leading in our lives. I asked him to consider the teaching in Matthew 10:29-30 where even the sparrows are noticed on their coming and going and God's knowledge of us extended to the very hairs on our head. He was not convinced and chose to continue to live making his choices based on his mindset.

DETERMINING YOUR CHURCH LIFE CYCLE

I am always reading and sometimes I come across a book or even in some cases, a thought that stirs within me a desire to do ministry more effectively.

One such book that has caused this recently is, "Legacy Churches" written by Stephen Gray and Franklin Dumond. Today, I am not pushing the book, although I think it would be a great resource for any pastor or church leader. Rather, I want to share a part of the book that I think is eye opening AND in many respects disconcerting.

In the middle of the book, the authors talk a great deal about a church's "life cycle." The illustration below describes this cycle.

By now most of you have made it through the Christmas season and any type of New Year's celebration. You are probably back to work and hard at the regular daily grind.

Somewhere in this period of time you may have thought about making a "New Year's resolution." You may have made more than one. Well, how are you doing? I don't think it's universally true, but many people make them, and a whole lot of people don't. There are probably many reasons why people don't make them, but I suspect most often it's because of the fact that many of us don't live that way on a daily basis. You know, set goals and objectives, and then do every thing we can to meet them. If we did, then we wouldn't be overweight, or in debt more than we would like to be. We wouldn't be as impulsive in everything we do. Instead, we get used to just going through life without some clearly defined strategic goals, and before we know it, we are at the end of the calendar year thinking that we should make some changes.

For the first time, we are coming together for what is being called the Advent Christian Prayer Summit. Our theme, "Seek My Face" is based on Psalm 27:7-9a. The Advent Christian Prayer Summit will take place in Charlotte, N.C., at the Dulins Grove Advent Christian Church (11200 Arlington Church Road, Charlotte, NC 28227), directly across the street from the ACGC denominational offices. It will be a great time of teaching, intentional prayer and incredible fellowship for all who attend. News from our Latin America Area Director John Gilbert

Mexico

On April 18, the Mexican Conference held their youth retreat at the mountain campground Agua between Ensenada and San Felipe. The retreat was filled with time for spiritual meetings, free time for contemplation, and, of course, sports and hiking. One hundred, ten children were treated to speaker Missionary Adriel Gonzalaz, a native of Cuba, who is now a resident of Ensenada. Missionary Adriel spent time sharing with the youth the freedom they have in sharing Christ as a difference to what existed in Cuba up until a short while ago. Adriel is in his mid-30s, so he was accepted as a peer to the children more easily than the older pastors.

During the "free time," Adriel and the pastors were involved in different one-on-one talks or voluntary small group discussions with the youth about whatever was on their hearts or in their heads. It was beautiful to watch the interaction with openness and confidence to talk about any subject.

IF Update

One would be hard pressed to read through the New Testament and not notice the strong emphasis upon prayer. We see how important it was to Jesus, as he would often spend all night in prayer. The disciples were deeply committed to prayer and this was largely due to the example set by Jesus on a daily basis.

The early church continued a deep commitment to prayer in their homes. Even when the disciples were not physically present, the people of the early church were often found praying. No wonder the church exploded in growth in its early days.

Nothing has really changed since then. The command to pray is still before us, and we, too, have the model of Jesus to pattern our own prayer lives.

As an AC pastor's wife (Rev. Russell Carle) and stay-at-home mom while her three children were young, she lived throughout New England, Canada and overseas.

"In her page-turning mystery "Waiting for Wren," author Noelle Carle brings the characters to life, with all their good and bad displayed in living color. As the relationships renew, intertwine and overlap, you will be intrigued to the very end. And in the end, the grace of God is described best of all in these words: "Love doesn't count the wrongs that have been done." As I read, I was transported to a familiar setting in northern Maine. Having been there many times, I was impressed with the authenticity of the author's descriptions of the area.

ACGC was pleased to host Berkshire Christian College (BCC) Trustees' meeting this past week. The meetings began Thursday afternoon, April 23, and concluded at noon on Saturday. Reports shared by President Lee Welkley and Dr. Gordon Isaac indicated an increase in students enrolled through e-Berkshire, an online learning platform, and in participants in the graduate studies offered through the partnership between BCC and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.

Two major items of business was the announcement of the formation of a search committee for the replacement of President Lee Welkley, who will be stepping down at the end of June 2015.

Fund Raiser for bicycles for African pastors

Deer Isle - The Sunshine Advent Christian Home and World Outreach members hosted a fish and corn chowder supper to raise money for bikes for our African pastors on Saturday, April 11, which raised more than $1,100! The group also placed a basket for offerings at the church on Sundays, April 12 and 19, which raised another $400. When both amounts were totaled, the group raised $1,500, enough for 10 bicycles! We praise God for what he has done through our humble efforts. (Submitted by Pastor David Davis)

News from our Urban Consultants Lee and Caroline Welkley

Lee & Carolyn WelkleyThe Bible teaches, "Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another. Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the alien or the poor. In your hearts do not think evil of each other" (Zechariah 7:9-10). Recent studies reveal that 91 million Americans did not live in the United States 25 years ago. Seventy million of these are under the age of 17 and 23,000,000 are the result of immigration. This influx of newcomers has directly impacted several of our urban churches. The Great Commission gives us a clear, defined responsibility to reach out to these new neighbors.

Fellowship is an important word for any believer. It is a powerful event for anyone who experiences it and one that should be repeated over and over again. It is more than just sitting around talking about miscellaneous matters. It involves intentionally sharing and listening for understanding from those within the group. This is all guided by the fact that each member of the group is being directed by the Holy Spirit. Being led by God is essential when it comes to true fellowship.

To experience true fellowship, you must come not only committed to share your life, but also be committed to hearing about and investing in the lives of others, even those you do not already know.

As I headed out this week to attend the board meetings of the Central Region, I stopped over in Atlanta, Ga. Director of Nurture Dr. "Sam" Warren and I were invited by Dr. David Ferguson, Co-chair of Awakening America Alliance and Founder and CEO of Great Commandment Network, to be his guests at Reset America Leadership Summit. More than 100 denominational leaders, pastors, and several other representatives of kingdom initiatives were called together to a solemn assembly in prayer. The two-hour gathering was followed by an invitation for each of us to consider how we and the people we serve can become participants of a national prayer movement. We were offered all kinds of helpful resources to pass onto our churches that want to be a part of a Christ-centered prayer for awakening, revival and evangelism.

MALAWI

Samuel SosonoGreetings dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I hope all is well with you. By his grace, we are all fine despite the hardships we are going through. God is good all the time!

We had a very wonderful Easter prayers this year. This year`s Easter prayers were conducted at the Mpinganjira Church in Chiwawa district. There were hundreds of people in attendance from both Nsanje and Chiwawa districts.

We had a special time of praying for:

* ACGC and the entire Advent Christian family in the world.

* Our brothers and sisters, who lost their properties during the floods in January, and a prayer of thanks to those who made their donations to the flood victims.

* Unity among Christians in the world.

Easter at Parawai Church of Christ

Jefferson and Penny Vann

This year's Easter was a bit different from usual. Penny and I (J. Vann) celebrated this holiday in Thames, New Zealand. The Parawai Church of Christ, affiliated with our Advent Christian Conference, asked us to come and be a part of their annual holiday celebration. There were a number of things that we knew were going to be different about this Easter.

First, we knew we would be celebrating without our immediate families. You never get used to having holidays away from your kids and grandkids. It's just hard. But, it goes with the calling.

Have you ever taken the time to gaze into the sky at day or night? I love to watch commercial airlines as they streak across the sky and try to guess how high they might be. While flying, I often look out the window and try to figure out where we are along the route. One thing I know for sure is this, we live in an amazing world, and the earth is a small part of this incredible world yet so important in God's plan. No wonder David wrote the following words in Psalm 8:3-4a:

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
The moon and stars, which you have set in place,

what is man that you're are mindful of him?

What's New in Student Ministries?

For those of you who aren't aware, the Office of Student and Kids' Ministries is a new piece to the ministry of Advent Christian General Conference. Over the last year, the development of this office has afforded opportunities for a lot of new services for student ministry leaders, kids' ministry leaders, college/pre-college students, and even our camping ministries.

Specifically in the area of student ministries, there are some new things, which we are pretty excited to share with you. First of all, for student ministry leaders, we have developed a new ministry called the E3 Cohorts program. This ministry offers student ministry leaders the opportunity to gather together for some guided discussion related to their roles in student ministry. Additionally, it offers the opportunity for ACGC to feed resources to our student ministry leaders in a more focused way. This has the opportunity to lead to some new opportunities in training for our student ministry leaders, as well as for opportunities for leaders to support one another better, and for valuable resources to make it into their hands.

"Praise the Lord. Last Sunday God blessed us in mighty way. We started to walk in the street at 9 o'clock; around 300 believers gathered, and they were so happy to give glory to God. Children did not get tired on that day. Each of them wore a crown. Even now, we can't forget this wonderful moment. All praises to Almighty God."

News from our Africa/Europe Area Director Bryce Whiting

When the good news is shared with the nations we receive good news from the nations.I hope you enjoy this good news as much as I do:

Malawi Conference President Samuel Sosono writes ...

"Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

"Thanks to God for giving me this opportunity to share with you the progress of the "Jesus" film project being carried out in the floods camps. Yes, God is good and he really cares! It's now a month and some days since we were given permission by the government authorities to show the "Jesus" film to the flood victims in their camps. The response from the viewers has always been positive.

IF Update

I am convicted by the passion that the apostle Paul had for Israel to come to faith in Christ. His words in Romans 10:1 are clear and to the point: "Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for them (Israel) is that they may be saved."

It is so easy for us to get busy in the midst of our schedules and miss out on the priority of the Scriptures, which is all about people coming to a saving knowledge of Christ. As Paul wrote in Romans, it is not enough (which is seen in Israel) to know information alone. It is critical for all of us to know that which pertains to having a right relationship with God.

Did you know that our mission fields reported a total of 4,451 baptisms in 2014? Did you know that 21 new churches were planted by our international conferences last year? The membership of Advent Christian churches outside North America is 50,356. The funding of our outreach ministries is primarily dependent upon our annual appeal through Penny Crusade. Last year, the receipts from Penny Crusade funded 87% of the total Outreach operational budget. We are truly grateful for the tremendous support of our missions, missionaries and field leaders. I hope the figures above will be an encouragement to those of you who contributed to the harvest and planting recorded in 2014.

VISION FOR EVANGELISM

Over the past few years, God has given us as Advent Christians the opportunity to be part of something special. What am I talking about? I am talking about the unique privilege we have shared as partners with the Great Commandment network and more specifically with Dr. David Ferguson and his work with the Next Generation of leaders.

A couple of years ago I was asked to put together a group of Advent Christian next generation leaders to participate in what has been called a Vision for Evangelism, a partnership between the Billy Graham library, the Great Commandment network and the Advent Christian General Conference.

La Paz

"Misión La Paz" used part of their Holy week to hold a teenage retreat for the young people of the Villas de Guadalupe community of La Paz. The retreat was attended by 12 of the local youth that Pastor Juan Murua and his wife, Eva, have been meeting with over the past several years. The retreat was a time of reflection for the teenagers to focus on what God wanted for them in their lives. The community has trouble with underage drinking and drug abuse. The prayer is that these young folks will see the benefits of living a God designed future.

IF Update

My prayer is simple and extends to everyone joining me by reading today's If Team. I hope that your Easter weekend experience was one filled with great joy over all that Jesus has accomplished for us through his sacrifice and victory over death.

Sunday night, I watched the new movie called "A.D." produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey. I must say, it was quite good, and I am excited to see just how they portray this period in the life of the followers of Christ. Naturally, one would expect them to be saddened by the death of Jesus, their teacher and Savior. For a period of time they were heartbroken over the idea that they would be left without hope for the future, having committed themselves so completely to all that he had done and taught them.
